On September 5, 2023, the National Bank of Poland is launching a 20PLN silver coin The Soviet invasion of Poland - 17 IX 1939 r.
The author of the "Year 1939" medal, from which the images used in the coin's design come, is the well-known sculptor Jozef Goslawski (1908-1963). The composition on the reverse symbolically depicts the events of September 17, 1939. - A Polish soldier fighting the German invaders is stabbed in the back by a Red Army officer. The inscription on the obverse states: "IN SEPTEMBER 1939, ATTACKED BY THE GERMAN AND BOLSHEVIK ARMIES - WE POLES - WITH THE SACRIFICE OF BLOOD DEFENDED THE FREEDOM OF PEOPLES, HONOR AND RELIGION." The design was created out of a deep inner need of the artist - in this way he commented on the tragic historical moment he witnessed.
