A commemorative coin with a face value of 50 PLN issued on the occasion of the 85th anniversary of the Katyn massacre, which serves as a symbol of remembrance for the victims of Soviet terror. The silver coin was minted in 2025 in Ag.999 assay, weighs 62.2 grams, and has a diameter of 45 mm. It is characterized by a limited mintage of up to 5,000 pieces. Additionally, it is secured in a dedicated capsule and placed in an elegant wooden case, which includes a certificate of authenticity and a commemorative folder.
On the obverse, the coin features an inscription in the form of a letter fragment: "I'M WAITING FOR YOU, DAD, WITH EAGER ANTICIPATION". In the central part, details of the uniform are depicted, including an officer’s shoulder strap and the eagles of the Polish Army, which were recovered during the exhumation of mass graves. In the foreground, a damaged eagle in a distinctive rust hue (selective coppering) is visible, symbolizing the tragic fate of Polish soldiers. In the lower semicircle, the inscription "RZECZPOSPOLITA POLSKA" appears along with the issue date. Above this inscription, an image of an eagle and the face value "50 ZŁ" are presented.
On the reverse, the coin portrays the figures of Polish Army officers in uniform. Their silhouettes are surrounded by the names and surnames of the identified victims of the Katyn massacre. Along the lower edge of the coin, the inscription "85TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE KATYN CRIME" is displayed.
