50 zl Stanisław Konarski - Treasures of the Medal-Making Art

Treasures of Medallic Art – Stanisław Konarski 50 zł, 2 oz Silver 2026 High Relief is another issue from the prestigious series of the National Bank of Poland, dedicated to the most eminent figures of Polish thought, culture, and science, immortalized in the form of artistic monetary medals.

The coin commemorates Stanisław Konarski—a Piarist monk, educational reformer, political writer, and one of the most outstanding intellectuals of the Polish Enlightenment. His work had a profound impact on the development of education, language, and constitutional thought in the Polish–Lithuanian Commonwealth, and the ideas he promoted became the foundation for later reforms.

The coin is struck from 2 ounces of pure silver (Ag 999), with a weight of 62.20 g and a diameter of 45.00 mm. The use of High Relief gives the design exceptional plasticity and depth, emphasizing the sculptural character of the issue. The mintage is limited to 4,000 pieces. The coin is presented in an elegant folder/case.

The Treasures of Medallic Art series combines classical inspirations drawn from medal-making with modern minting techniques, creating pieces of high artistic and collectible value. The issue dedicated to Stanisław Konarski is an important element of this collection, highlighting the significance of the intellectual legacy of the Enlightenment in Polish history.

Obverse: The central motif features two books referring to the works of Stanisław Konarski: “On the Improvement of the Defects of Speech” and “On an Effective Method of Counsel, or on Maintaining Ordinary Sejms”, adorned with an oak wreath. At the top, arranged in a semicircle, appears the motto “SAPERE AUSO.”, while at the bottom is the inscription “STAN: AUG: REX. / MDCCLXV.”. Around the rim are the inscription “RZECZPOSPOLITA POLSKA”, the denomination 50 ZŁ, the image of the eagle established as the emblem of the Republic of Poland, the mint mark, and the year of issue 20–26.

Reverse: The central design depicts a profile bust of Stanisław Konarski. Along the rim, from the left side upwards, runs the Latin inscription: “STAN: KONARSKI. SCHOL: PIAR: IN. POL: F. T. LITU: ANTIQ: PRÆP. PROV:”, referring to his activity and merits. The composition is executed in a classical, medallic style, emphasizing the dignity and timeless character of the figure.
