The second coin from the series "Masterpieces of Sculpture Art". The Mint of Poland first struck the Pietà, and now the time has come for the Loacoon Group.
This sculpture was created in Rhodes about two thousand years ago. Its first mention was found in the memoirs of Pliny the Elder when he saw it in the palace of Roman Emperor Titus. The sculpture was rediscovered in 1506 in Rome under Pope Julius II.
The coin is characterized by excellent details, close to the original. Additionally, selected elements were gilded.
