The kookaburra is a bird of the kingfisher family, especially known for its powerful call, which resembles laughter. It has a large head, a compact body and a long, robust beak adapted to capturing different types of prey. Its plumage typically combines white, cream, brown and bluish tones, with variations depending on the species.

It inhabits mainly Australia and New Guinea, although some populations have been introduced to other regions. It prefers open forests, wooded areas, savannas, areas near waterways and even parks and gardens.

It often remains perched on branches, carefully watching the ground before swooping down on its prey. Its diet includes insects, small reptiles, rodents, amphibians and other small animals. It is a territorial bird, and its characteristic vocalisations play an important role in communication between members of the group. Many kookaburras live in family groups and cooperate in defending their territory and raising their young. Its unmistakable call and strong association with Australian landscapes have made it one of the most emblematic birds of the continent.

The reverse shows the kookaburra perched among richly detailed vegetation beneath an intense storm. Its plumage combines striking blues, turquoises and warm coppery tones, while a deep blue sky streaked with rain contrasts with large clouds illuminated in orange. The reddish, golden and dark vegetation in the foreground completes a dramatic and vibrant composition, crowned by the title Wild Essence.

The obverse of the coin features the coat of arms of the Republic of Liberia at its centre, accompanied by the face value, year of issue, weight and silver purity. Various animals and botanical motifs surround the central design, reinforcing the collection’s wildlife theme.
