Polish Border Guard is a uniformed and armed formation established to protect the Polish border. On 16 May 1991 it took up duty on the Polish border. For 30 years this day has been celebrated as a holiday for all officers and employees of the Border Guard.
On 1 September 1939, Border Guard soldiers were the first to fight against the German invader, and on 17 September KOP soldiers fought against the Soviet aggressor. The contemporary Border Guard is a centralized formation subordinated to the Minister of Interior and Administration. Its tasks include protection of the state border on land and at sea, organization and execution of controls at border crossings, prevention and counteraction of illegal migration, verification of compliance with regulations on entry and stay of foreigners, detection and prosecution of perpetrators of crimes related to the crossing of the border, including with explosives, weapons and ammunition, drugs and narcotics, as well as art relics.
On the reverse side of the coin there is an image of the Border Guard officers appearing as a part of the standard guard with the banner of the Border Guard Headquarters. The obverse of the coin depicts a Border Guard officer with a dog during patrol.
