The NBP issues another coin in the series 100th Anniversary of Regaining Independence by Poland.

Wincenty Witos (1874–1945) - politician, publicist; three - times Prime Minister of the Second Polish Republic; leader of the Polish People's Party "Piast" and the People's Party; member of the National League, one of the fathers of independence.

He was born and ran a farm in Wierzchosławice near Tarnów. From 1908, the village mayor. Member of the Galician National Seym, member of the Austrian State Council. Co-founder and long-time leader of the PSL "Piast" - a party established in 1913 as a result of the disintegration of the Polish People's Party.

After Poland regained independence, he was a member of the Seym for fourteen consecutive years. In the years 1920-1921, i.e. during the Polish-Bolshevik war, the Prime Minister of the Government of National Defense. He headed the council of ministers again in 1923, quickly and forced to resign. His re-election as prime minister, in early May 1926, prompted Józef Piłsudski to change his status. In 1930, he was officially imprisoned in a military fortress in Brest-on-the-Bug. In a political trial, he was sentenced to eighteen months in prison.

In the years 1933-1939, for fear of being re-imprisoned, he traveled in exile in Czechoslovakia. In the years 1941-1941 he was imprisoned by the Germans, who saw him as a potential candidate for a "Polish Quisling".
