He carried, Jesus bore the weight of sin and death, paying the penalty for our sin so that we might be forgiven, reconciled, and redeemed, as was prophesied by the prophet lsaiah.
But he was pierced for our offenses. He was crushed for our wrongdoings, the punishment for our well-being was laid upon Him, and by His wounds we are healed (Isaiah 53:5)
The crown of thorns may have been fashioned by the Roman soldiers as a mock coronation for a lowly political prisoner (in their eyes).
