Painted by the Austrian artist Gustav Klimt in 1913, the abstract artwork is well known for Klimt’s expression of creativity and symbolism around the essence of beauty and sexuality.
This painting features a maiden sleeping, with her body covered by an elaborate blanket decorated with flowers and spirals. The tangle of multiple female bodies around the maiden alluded to sensuality manifesting through the maiden’s tranquil sleep and imagination. The artwork used bright and colourful palettes to express beauty, youth and mortality and the celebration of young life.
Representative of Klimt’s last stylistic change, the painting assumed an exceptional position in his work as the previous themes of “female fatale” was replaced by the dream like sensuality of a young woman.
On a canvas of 150 x 150mm, a new minting technique called “Tri-Metal ” was applied to give this piece its remarkable weight while keeping its proportions true to the actual painting. This is made possible by combining 750g of Zinc as a center layer and 120g of copper as a base with a top layer of 2.5 oz of 999 fine Silver, resulting in a high relief.
This is a limited edition of 399 pieces only.
Each piece is packaged and delivered with a Certificate verifying its edition number and authenticity.
