This 10 PLN commemorative coin is dedicated to Father Władysław Gurgacz, chaplain of the Cursed Soldiers, symbolizing the resilience of the Polish anti-communist underground. It is a tribute to the heroes who gave their lives in the fight for Poland's freedom after World War II.
Reverse: The reverse features a bust of Father Gurgacz, the chaplain of the Polish underground. Next to it, on the left side, is the Commander's Cross of the Order of Polonia Restituta, an award highlighting his contributions and dedication. The inscription “KS. WŁADYSŁAW GURGACZ ‘SEM’” encircles the upper part of the coin, while at the bottom, a ribbon in the national colors displays the emblem of the Fighting Poland. The slogan “They behaved as they should” and the dates “1914–1949” remind us of the indomitable spirit of the priest and his tragic history.
Obverse: The obverse of the coin features the image of the eagle, the emblem of the Republic of Poland, set against a background of broken prison bars – a symbol of the repression faced by the Cursed Soldiers for their opposition to the communist regime.
