In 2024, we commemorate the 230th anniversary of the Kościuszko Uprising. To mark this occasion, the National Bank of Poland is issuing a collector's gold coin with a face value of 100 PLN.
The goals of the Kościuszko Uprising were "freedom, integrity, independence" of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth. The decision to revolt was made by the leaders of the Four-Year Sejm, who were in exile upon hearing about the Second Partition. Tadeusz Kościuszko, a hero of the American War of Independence and the Polish-Russian War of 1792, was chosen as the leader of the uprising.
Obverse: At the top, on a separate horizontal plane, there is an image of the eagle established for the coat of arms of the Republic of Poland. Below the eagle, on the right side, there is the mint mark: m / w, on the right side of the eagle, the inscription: 100 PLN, below the eagle the inscription: REPUBLIC OF POLAND 2024. Below the horizontal line, there is a fragment of the standard of the 1st Kraków Grenadiers Regiment with the motto "ZYWIĄ Y BRONIĄ" (They feed and defend), a sheaf of grain, a cap with a laurel wreath around it, and a crossed scythe and pike in the background.
Reverse: Bust of General Tadeusz Kościuszko with the Order of Virtuti Militari and the American Order of the Cincinnati; in the background, a stylized standard. Along the upper edge in a semicircle, the inscription reads: 230th ANNIVERSARY OF THE KOŚCIUSZKO UPRISING.
