The design of the coin is illustrative and may differ from the final result.

The Amber Road was an ancient trade route linking the Baltic coast with the Mediterranean world, fostering the exchange of goods, cultures, and ideas. Austria, the next coin in the series, takes the viewer to the Danube and the frontier of the Roman Limes.

The composition captures the tension between a barbarian archer and warriors on one side, and the defenders of the Vindobona fort — presentday Vienna — on the other.

Natural amber holds the image of a denarius of Emperor Trajan, while the map of Noricum and Pannonia recalls the strategic importance of this section of the route.
