Mount Rushmore in South Dakota, USA, is a famous monument in the Black Hills. State historian and lawyer Doane Robinson, considered the father of Mount Rushmore, had the idea of carving a giant monument out of stone so that the state of South Dakota would finally become known and attract tourists.

The faces of four US presidents are carved into the rock: George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Theodore Roosevelt, and Abraham Lincoln. Each president represents an important period or a key achievement in the history of the United States – from its founding to its expansion and preservation to its modernization.

It took 14 years (1927-1941) for more than 400 workers to complete the monumental memorial in its current form. It remains the largest stone-carved work of art in the world and attracts around three million visitors annually.

The half-ounce coin honors this work of art in a very special and modern way. It depicts the monument in the form of a watercolor painting. The color gradient gives the impression that the artist has just finished his work. This impression is further enhanced by the paper-like appearance of the background.
