5$ World Trade Center - Human Tragedies

World Trade Center – 2 oz Ag 999 is the fifth coin in the moving “Human Tragedies” series, following numismatic tributes to Chernobyl, Hiroshima, the Plague and Fukushima. A common theme throughout

the series is the portrayal of tragic events from the perspective of those who found themselves at the very heart of them:

• Chernobyl – a liquidator’s mask,

• Hiroshima – a pilot’s mask,

• The Black Death – the distinctive mask of a plague doctor,

• Fukushima – the mask of a power plant worker,

• World Trade Center – the mask of a rescue worker who took part in the emergency response following the attacks of September 11, 2001.

Thanks to its ultra-high relief, precise craftsmanship and carefully applied color accents, the coin conveys the drama of these events in a powerful and evocative way, paying tribute to both the victims and those who came to their aid.

The obverse features the official Niue Seal, with a crown and central coat of arms surrounded by a wreath. In the background is the Pentagon – headquarters of the United States Department of Defense,

depicted in its distinctive five-sided form. The building was attacked on September 11, 2001, and dense smoke resulting from the fire and destruction can be seen rising above the structure. Along the lower

edge are the inscriptions “2026 NIUE 5 DOLLARS” and “Ag 999”.

The reverse depicts a dramatic scene from the perspective of a rescue worker’s mask. Reflected in its visor are rescue workers taking part in the operation following the collapse of the World Trade Center,

surrounded by rubble, dust and smoke. In the background, the Manhattan skyline and the burning World Trade Center towers can be seen, with thick clouds of dark smoke rising above them. The date

“11.09.2001” is engraved at the bottom.

World Trade Center – 2 oz Ag 999 is not merely an exceptional collector’s piece, but above all a numismatic tribute to the victims of the tragedy and to the rescue workers who came to the aid of

others in the face of catastrophe.
