The most famous novel
"Solaris" is the most famous novel by Stanisław Lem. In this book, the author addresses one of the most popular topics in fantasy literature - the topic of Contact. With an alien civilization, a different form of life, or maybe simply with the Unknown, Lem does not clearly specify this. Perhaps that is why Solaris is still fascinating several dozen years after its first release. It is a real honor for us that we could immortalize a fragment of this story on coins.
Daniel Mróz
On one of the silver coins, in addition to Stanisław Lem, Daniel Mróz is also immortalized. Daniel Mróz was a visual artist, graphic designer, set designer and illustrator who created the most famous illustrations for Stanisław Lem's stories. He illustrated, among others: "Cyberiad" (twice, for the 1965 and 1972 editions) and "Bajki robotów", he also designed covers for many other books by Lem. Mróz mainly used pen and ink - his works are characterized by surrealism and grotesque.
Przemek Dębowski's designs on coins
The author of the designs is Przemek Dębowski, a graphic designer from Krakow, whose covers have been decorating Stanisław Lem's books for over ten years not only in Poland, but also in renowned publishing houses in the United States and Spain. As he says, working on immortalizing Stanisław Lem's fantastic universe in this unique series of coins allowed him to discover new faces of the outstanding writer's prose.
Stanisław Lem was born on September 12, 1921 in Lviv, died on March 27, 2006 in Kraków. His work touches on topics such as the development of science and technology, human nature, the possibility of communication between intelligent beings and the place of man in the Universe. Lem's works contain references to the state of society and scientific and philosophical reflections on it. In addition to science fiction stories, such as "Star Diaries" or the series of adventures of the pilot Pirx, the writer's achievements also include detective novels ("Investigation"), futurological essays and dissertations (including "Summa technologicale"), poetry, scripts for radio plays and films or dramas, as well as unique, cosmic fairy tales "Robot Fairy Tales".
