The idea for Witcher coins originated in 2018. Łukasz Rosanowski, the owner of the Mint of Gdańsk, engaged in months-long discussions with Andrzej Sapkowski – the creator of the Witcher universe. The negotiations proved successful – the Gdańsk Mint became the sole entity worldwide granted rights to issue collector's coins featuring the likeness of the Witcher based on Andrzej Sapkowski's prose. On November 6, 2019, the first coins corresponding to the book "The Last Wish" were premiered.

The series consists of collector's coins struck in silver, depicting significant events from the books, coins struck in gold, portraying characters from the books, bullion coins, and 3D coins depicting scenes from Andrzej Sapkowski's Witcher Cycle.
The unique features of the Witcher series coins undoubtedly lie in their additions. High relief, multi-layered glass with gold flakes, inserts printed on a 3D printer, or pure gold plating.
