Chinese Heroes

The Far East enjoys unflagging popularity. No wonder - we always find the unknown, the unusual more interesting. The Chinese historical tradition of the earliest period of the country's history was formed during the reign of the Eastern Zhou Dynasty (770 - 256 BC). Over the years, various dynasties ruled the territories and led numerous armed conflicts. In such a long history, many warriors who became famous for their valor or command can be distinguished.

The first coin in the series was released in 2019. The coin's design quickly appealed to numismatists. Collectors have been waiting for the next installment of the series. Earlier this year, Liu Bei, the second coin in the series, came into their hands.

Liu Bei - Chinese Heroes

Liu Bei was a Chinese warrior and politician, the founder of the Shu Han state. He was a descendant of one of the emperors of the Han dynasty. In 214 he gained control of western Sichuan. In 219 he captured the Han River valley. In 221 he proclaimed himself emperor. He was succeeded by his son, Hou Zou.

Culturally, due to the popularity of the 14th-century historical novel Romance of the Three Kingdoms, Liu Bei is widely regarded as an ideal, benevolent and humane ruler who cared for his people and chose good advisors for his government. His fictional counterpart in the novel was a salutary example of a ruler who upheld moral values such as loyalty and compassion. Historically, he was a brilliant politician and leader.

The coin was struck from two ounces of pure fine silver, with the high relief perfectly displaying all the details of the refined design. The reverse of the coin depicts a warrior at the side of a dragon - in the folklore and art of China a symbol of the power to bring good luck. It also personifies the concept of yang. The dragon on the coin was decorated with colourful print, which emphasises its important role.

The obverse of the coin is decorated with beautiful Chinese ornaments. The mintage is only 500 pieces!
