The Perth Mint 125th Anniversary 1 oz Silver Proof Coin 2024 celebrates the 125th anniversary of the Perth Mint. The Mint was established on 20 June 1899, during the height of the gold boom in Western Australia. Through gold refining and the striking of 106 million sovereigns over the following three decades, it made a significant contribution to the rapid economic development of this region of Australia. Since that pivotal moment, the Australian Kangaroo, previously known as the Australian Nugget, has gained worldwide recognition and achieved great success. Subsequent additions to Australia’s official bullion coin program include the Australian Kookaburra and the Australian Koala, both of which enjoy strong interest from investors and collectors alike.

The coin is struck from 1 troy ounce of pure silver (Ag.9999) in Proof quality. Additionally, it features an extra security element in the form of a micro-engraved letter “P” on the reverse.

The obverse depicts King Charles III of Great Britain, based on a design by Dan Thorne, and includes the coin’s face value and the issuing country.

The reverse features a kangaroo, a koala and a kookaburra set among acacia branches—the national floral emblem of Australia. The inscriptions include “1899 THE PERTH MINT 2024” as well as the coin’s weight, year of issue and metal fineness. The reverse was designed by Jennifer McKenn.
