Coins with Robert Lewandowski and an interview with the footballer.

We invite you to read an interview with Robert Lewandowski. You will find out about his plans for the future, as well as what he thinks about numismatics and his coins.

How much did you believe that you would become such an outstanding footballer?

In the beginning there were dreams, ambition, passion. As a child I wanted to play football all the time, I watched my idols on TV and of course dreamed of one day being where they were. Did I believe in it? I combined dreams with passion, hard work and determination. That was the most important thing. Later came the first successes and failures, but I never lost the will to fight and get better. This is how it is today.

To what do you owe this success; how much to talent, genes and how much to hard work?

I think it's a combination of everything. Certainly the genes I inherited from my athlete parents are important, but also their awareness of how to work with me so I can be a professional athlete in the future. These are the foundations, to which you have to add hard work, the will to keep improving, to be better, to rise to a higher level, to understand your body and mentality better, your strong and weak points and to work on them.

Which three goals made you most happy? Let's have a little ranking.

It is hard to say. Goals scored for the national team, especially at home in front of Polish fans, are always a great joy. Goals scored in the Champions League are also very emotional. Of course, the goals that decide about the victory are the most important, but it is difficult for me to point out only one, because each of them contributes to the final success. A very important goal was scored in the 90th minute, breaking Gerd Muller's record, but I will always remember the fact that I scored 5 goals in 9 minutes.

What does your day look like?

It depends on whether it is a match day or a normal training day. On training days I usually get up around 7-7:30, I make a small start at home and go to the club, where I usually have to be around 10. At the club I spend about 5-6 hours, during which we have a briefing, training, regeneration. I am at home around 4 p.m. As we play every three days, such normal training days happen only twice a week. There is a lot of travelling. The intensity is very high, but I always try to find time for my family, to spend an afternoon with my daughters.

How much time do you devote to training?

It cannot be counted so easily. Training is much more than just activities on the pitch. Everything I do is subordinated to my work. How I train, eat, sleep and rest.

What else would you like to achieve as an athlete? Do you still have something to prove to yourself, your fans, your loved ones?

I want to fight for the highest goals all the time, score goals, win trophies and develop. It's not a question of proving something, but the desire to be the best and achieve success with my teams. This has driven me throughout my career.

Are you interested in other sports apart from football? If so, which ones?

As a child, my dad made sure that I developed in many disciplines, which I think is very important from today's perspective.  What are your interests today? I like following NBA games, tennis and F1 racing.

Is the world of numismatics, where you have been honoured with a series of collector coins, interesting to you?

I know that there are many people for whom numismatics is a great passion, who can talk about it for hours and invest a lot of money. Until now I have never had the time or opportunity to take an interest in it, but I am very happy to have been honoured in this way.

What do you think of the coins that have appeared on the numismatic market, issued by the Gdańsk Mint?

I like the idea of a design that incorporates elements from the early days of my career and it makes an impression.

How do you feel about such an award? Will the coins be a keepsake for generations of your fans?

This is a very nice distinction. Who knows, maybe they will allow me to gain new fans among numismatic enthusiasts.

Is investing a subject that you plan with specialists or do you make the decisions yourself?

Today I am focusing on football, but naturally I am also learning what investing and business management is. There is no better way to learn than to surround yourself with wiser and more experienced people than yourself and listen to their advice.

Are you happy?

Yes, I am happy, I have a wonderful family, my work is my passion and I still have great challenges ahead of me.

Do you feel a sense of fulfilment with so much success to your credit?

I don't know the feeling of fulfilment at the moment, especially when it comes to sport. I think about what is still ahead of me.

How do you most like to spend your free time?

Due to my profession, I have little free time, but I try to devote every free moment to my family. We enjoy travelling, showing our daughters the world and meeting up with friends.
