We're back to the "5 on Friday" series. This time we will present 5 coins dedicated to selected cinema hits. Pop culture is a significant element of many people's lives. Some films are remembered and watched and loved by future generations. Often there is a reactivation of a given cinema hit, subsequent actors play the main characters. Fans love to collect things related to their favourite characters, such as figurines and posters. Pop culture does not bypass the numismatic market either. Collectors buying such a coin, apart from an interesting souvenir, also buy savings and investment, which is the best combination.  

20$ Deep Space Nine - Star Trek

The first coin is dedicated to the "Star Trek" universe, which celebrates its 53rd anniversary this year! The series includes series, full-length films, books and comics. Originally created as a series, it was released in 1966. The first feature-length film was released 13 years later, in 1979. It quickly won the hearts of fans all over the world, although the biggest success was in the American market. The series tells the story of humanity after the end of the Third World War. People, in cooperation with other intelligent races living in the galaxy, founds the United Federation of Planets, which aims at the peaceful coexistence of the various races living in the galaxy and its exploration.

In 2018, the Canadian Mint decided to commemorate the space station "Deep Space Nice" known to Star Trek fans for 25 years. The coin was struck in silver, given a mirror stamp and decorated with colourful UV print. The shape of the coin reflects the appearance of the station. The mintage is limited to 4500 pieces.

1$ Gone with the Wind, 80th Anniversary

Another coin was struck on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the film "Gone With the Wind". This is a tribute to older fans of cinematography, but not only. "Gone With the Wind" is a cult American melodrama from 1939! The film was based on a novel with the same title, but it did not gain the same popularity as its cinematic adaptation. After taking inflation into account, this film is still the undisputed leader in terms of profits from production, as it earned more than 400 million dollars in those times. Today it would be about 1.5 billion dollars! The film won 9 Oscars and 13 Oscar nominations. The plot of the film is set during the Civil War and is presented from the beautiful position of Scarlett O'Hara, daughter of a southern grower. Losing the war puts Scarlett to a hard test, accustomed to the comforts of Scarlett. Against this background, the story of Rhett Butler's great love for the beautiful Scarlett takes place.

To commemorate this cinema masterpiece, the Australian mint Perth Mint has issued a oneounce silver coin this year. The reverse is decorated with colourful images of the main characters. 5000 pieces of this nostalgic souvenir were minted.

100$ Superman, The Last Son of Krypton

Superman is a hero of many comics, cartoons and films. Every few years another film about this superhero, played by different actors, is reissued. In addition to his own films, Superman also plays in films about the adventures of other characters from the DC Comics universe. He debuted for the first time in 1938. He is one of the most popular characters and the idol of many boys in the world.

Mints often deal with comic books. Many of the characters have their own images on bouillon coins, for example. Superman is also a hero of the reverse side of several coins. Some mints, however, go one step further and create something extraordinary. The Canadian mint has minted a figurative coin. The whole coin is made of 157.05 grams of silver. The Superman figurine is additionally gold plated. A popular theme and an interesting idea guaranteed the success of the coin, which was minted only in the amount of 1000 pieces.

1$ Titanic, Rose's Ticket

One of the most famous films in history was released in 1977. "Titanic", because it has become a masterpiece and a great hit, which to this day is loved by millions of people around the world. The plot of the film is based on the tragic events of 1912, when the transatlantic Titanic sank during its maiden voyage together with almost 70% of the people on board. In addition to this catastrophe, the film's plot focuses on the knowledge and development of love between Rose DeWitt Bukater and Jack Dawson, a poor American cartoonist. The film is ranked 3rd on the list of the most profitable films in the history of cinema.

The history of the Titanic still inspires many filmmakers and artists all over the world. These inspirations have also reached the world of numismatics. This year, a very unusual coin was issued, perfectly referring to the history of the film - it is a silver, 5 gram replica of the ticket to the first class of the main character, Rose. It is a perfect souvenir for all fans of this extraordinary plot.

5$ Lord Vader Helmet - Star Wars

The first place is undoubtedly taken by "Star Wars". This series of films has become a cult in many countries around the world. Initially, the success of the plot based on Luke Skywalker's struggle was not predicted. However, the film was received with great interest, and the first version broadcast in 1981 became the fourth part of the series. Today, the universe consists of comics, books, as well as a triple trilogy on the main carbon black and other side threads. Lord Vader himself has become a pop culture phenomenon - he is the most famous film villain in the world.

Many coins have been dedicated to "Star Wars": bouillon, collector's, banknotes, gold and silver coins. Every fan will find something for himself. One of the most interesting coins is Lord Vader's 2 oz. silver mask. Thanks to the use of 3D technology, the coin took on the shape of a mask. Laser matting adds charm to the whole coin.
