We are pleased to present you the third excellent coin from the "Great Commanders" series. This time it presents Genghis Khan

This five-dollar coin shows the fighting Genghis Khan on the reverse. Many brave Mongols can be seen in the background. Of particular note is the selective red gold plating, which imitates the blood of the warriors. The coin is also decorated with a three-millimetre high relief, which shows every detail of the design.

The obverse is decorated with a map depicting the deployment of the Mongol armies and their expansion; the most important battles and battle routes are marked on it. The coin comes in an elegant wooden box with a certificate of authenticity.

Genghis Khan was the famous founder of the Mongol Empire, one of the greatest conquerors in history. He was born between 1155 and 1167 in the nomadic settlement of Deliün Bołdak (today's Russia). He was the son of a local Mongol chieftain, Jesügej. He was characterised by extraordinary charisma. He gained power over some Mongolian tribes, whose chiefs proclaimed him Khan. Thanks to this, he subjugated the Tatars, the Kereites, the Najmanis, etc.  In 1206 he was proclaimed the Great Khan, or Genghis Khan.

He led a vast expansion not only into Asia, but also into Europe. Crossing the Gobi desert, he began to conquer the lands of China. Genghis Khan's armed forces consisted mainly of horsemen. The Mongols of the time were known for exploiting the technical advances of their opponents. Genghis Khan was a cruel and fearsome leader, which made his army extremely disciplined.

Genghis considered the state to be the property of his family - hence before his death he divided it 1224 between his sons and relatives, retaining supreme authority over the whole.
