This coin celebrates the life and achievements of explorer and Royal Navy officer Captain Robert Falcon Scott.

The reverse of the coin shows an engraved portrait of Captain Robert Falcon Scott against an image of his ship, Terra Nova, in the icy waters of Antarctica. On the left side of the coin is the final section of Scott's journal written during his unsuccessful Terra Nova expedition to the South Pole. In turn, the rim is engraved with a dedication to Captain Scott's courage in the form of the words "strive, seek, find and do not give up" and the dates of Scott's birth and death.

Robert Falcon Scott was a British military and Royal Navy officer, as well as an Antarctic explorer. In 1901, aboard the ship Discovery, he set off south from the Scottish city of Dundee. During this expedition the Polar Plateau was observed. The expedition reached 82° south latitude, this was then the southernmost point reached by man. After the success of the expedition Scott became known as the Scott of Antarctica. In 1910 another British polar expedition set off, once again led by Scott. The aim of the expedition was to reach the South Pole and also to conduct scientific research in the Antarctic and during the voyage.
