The founding of Australia as a state dates back to 1788, with the arrival of the first fleet from the UK. Fleet captain Arthur Phillip led 11 ships carrying 1300 colonists to Sydney Cove.

This silver coin was struck to mark the 220th anniversary of the arrival of the First Fleet off the coast of Australia.

The coin's reverse shows a colourful image of Captain Arthur Phillip and an outline of the Australian continent, often referred to as New Holland at the time.
