Coin minted on the occasion of the 450th anniversary of the Lublin Union. On 1 July, at the European Parliament in Lublin, which was held from January to August 1569, decisions were taken that built the Republic of the Two Nations.
A federal structure was created, with a common elected monarch, a common parliament and foreign policy. However, both of its entities retained their own territory, offices, treasury, official language and judicial system.
The reverse of the coin shows the coat of arms of Sigismund II Augustus, a quote from documents of the EU Parliament: "Free to Free, Equal to Equals" and a fragment of Marcello Bacciarelli's painting "Union of Lublin". On the obverse there is an image of King Sigismund II Augustus according to Jan Matejko.
