Allegory - in literature and the visual arts a visual or verbal image representing a concept, idea, thought or event, using an image of a portable or symbolic nature, e.g. through personification. The reading of allegories is made possible by, for example, attributes or emblems with a specific meaning, which is why, unlike a symbol, the message of an allegory is usually unambiguous.
